Is Less Really More When it Comes to Displaying Your Work?
Tuesday, Feb 08, 2011
Well, in all my experience, I would say yes! I think us as artists want to showcase as much of our work as possible. We want to show our “range” so to speak. When it comes to your website, blogs, Facebook, Youtube, the more images the better. But when it comes to your studio and sales room, less is definitely more in my book! But you also have to consider the proper size for the portraits as well, that’s a blog for a different day though. The image above is a great example of one of our monthly mentor subscribers and how he transformed the entry area of his studio. The previous owner had multiple small portraits on display; he chose to showcase just one. Which one has more impact to a prospective client? And, considering that most people have never seen a custom wall portrait larger than an 11x14, this 30x40 really makes an impact. Plus, you instantly know exactly what this photographer is all about and what he selling. Notice that you don’t see a disc nailed to wall either! Josh filmed a video a few weeks ago and put it up on our Facebook and Youtube page that illustrates this point even further. In our lobby we only have 4 portraits on display, which are 60, 50, 40, and 30 inches in size. Always remember that sometimes less is more and display what you want to sell! Thanks everyone, have a great day! -Bruce Hudson PS. On a personal note, Josh and his wife Melissa recently lost their unborn child Paige Susan Hudson due to an unknown complication before birth at 40 weeks. All of your thoughts and prayers thus far have been much appreciated. As a grieving grandfather, it is much appreciated for me as well. Never forget that life is precious and what we do as image creators is something that has more meaning than we could ever imagine.
